For the benefit of members whose sections are still in the formative stages, National Lawyers Association has asked that I briefly recap the steps which the Litigation Section followed in establishing its web page in the NLA's "Virtual Office."

Immediately following the NLA's second annual convention in Chicago, the Litigation Section canvassed each of its members with a "Skills and Experience Questionnaire." This questionnaire was designed not only to provide an informational and networking database, but also to identify those members who would be interested in contributing articles to the NLA Review and/or presenting CLE programs in the future. In addition, to facilitate intra-section communications, the questionnaire also asked members to furnish their internet e-mail addresses when available.

With a membership response rate of almost fifty percent, the second step in the process was both quick and easy—furnishing the formatted membership roster, including the completed skills and experience "inventory," to the NLA's "Webmaster," Mike Monahan. Within only a few days after delivery, Mike had the litigation Section's web page up and running. NLA members could now access the page to apply for membership in the section; review their colleagues' special skills and experience; provide and/or update responses to the "Skills and Experience Questionnaire"; communicate electronically with other section members; and post questions or notices of general interest on the NLA bulletin board.

Again, thanks to the capable efforts of others, the final step in the process—establishment of a "Virtual Law Library"—was as simple as the second. This step merely involved a "marrying" of Mike's talents, on behalf of the NLA, with those of Ms. Debbie Martin, of Holland & Hart's Computer Services Department. As part of Debbie's ongoing contributions to the firm, she regularly reviews periodicals, such as Legal Online and Internet Lawyer, for websites of general interest to the firm's attorneys. Over the course of several months, Debbie created a "Cyberspace Launchpad," which is a series of hyperlinks to frequently used legal resources (as well as the requisite "Dilbert" cartoon). With Mike's assistance, the Litigation Section simply created a hyperlink to Debbie's "Cyberspace Launchpad." As a result, NLA members are now only a "mouse-click" away from links to the U.S. Code, Code of Federal Regulations, Federal Court rules, Supreme Court and Federal Circuit Court opinions, government agency information, online law school libraries, various law-related and other search engines (and the requisite "Dilbert" cartoon). We invite all NLA members to visit—and use—the website and, more importantly, to furnish your feedback. In particular, when and as you become aware of other helpful internet resources, please make them known to Mike, so he may add them (mike55@primenet.com) to the "Virtual Law Library."
