NLA REVIEW

ENVIRONMENTAL LAW

WINTER 1996

The Environmental Law Section of the NLA exists to provide NLA members access to materials, services, and a network of environmental lawyers across the country with whom to discuss complex environmental issues. Accordingly, the Environmental Law Section provides an opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of any environmental law issue, develop mutual friendships, and better represent one's client.

Environmental Law Section members boast expertise on every aspect of environmental law including transactional issues, Superfund, toxic tort, administrative matters, and compliance counseling from actually conducting environmental and OSHA compliance audits, drafting permit applications, closure plans, and RCRA facility assessments to defending companies against environmental and OSHA citations. Our members have conducted environmental work in nearly every state in the Union.

We are presently a relatively small group of attorneys. However, we expect there are several other environmental lawyers in the NLA who have not yet contacted us. Accordingly, we invite any NLAmernbers who practice environmental (or safety/ OSHA) law to contact us for inclusion in the Environmental Law Section. Of course, general practitioners who occasionally face an environmental or safety issue are also welcome.

By March 1, we expect to circulate a complete member list to each member in the NLA membership. At that time, we will begin building a network through personal telephone contacts to determine the extent to which we can assist each other to better our practices. In this way, we hope to develop informal means of information exchange. However, we also owe an obligation to inform the rest of the NLA community about important environmental matters. Accordingly, we will offer member articles to the NLA newsletter publication to help keep our section and the entire NLA community informed about far-reaching environmental law issues that could effect our clients. Further, we expect to offer a CLE at the next national convention in Washington, D.C. To join or find out more about the Environmental Law Section, contact either: Theodore J.
