
Convention Committee
The Convention Committee met in Overland Park, Kansas on March 18, 1996 to work on the 1996 NLA convention in Chicago scheduled for September 27, 28 and 29 at the Renaissance Chicago Hotel.

Environmental Law Section
The Environmental Law Committee has compiled a list of goals and objectives. In addition to seeking an increase in its membership, the committee will provide a forum in which environmental law practitioners will be timely informed of emerging environmental case law precedent, regulations, and policies. The committee will provide its members with a nationwide networking capability to make state of the art environmental compliance and litigation tools available to its members, including a nationwide depository of practical forms and briefs, and ultimately an environmental law committee newsletter.

Insurance Law Section
The Insurance Law Section will be meeting soon, telephonically, to prepare bylaws, a mission statement, and to establish an agenda for 1996 and beyond. The committee anticipates submitting articles on "hot" insurance law topics and to ultimately develop its own insurance law newsletter.

Labor Law Section
The Labor Law Section is preparing copy for use on the developing NLA "home page" and for NLA publications. This copy will deal with "hot topics" in the labor law field. Also, the Labor Law Section will hold its own meeting at the Chicago convention on either Friday or Saturday afternoon.

Life Issues Section
The Life Issues Section has adopted a mission statement. Its goals include providing a network for attorneys who provide legal services to pro-life individuals and groups. Toward that end, members of the section have volunteered to become liaisons with national pro-life groups. Additionally, the section is establishing a periodic newsletter which will contain information regarding where section members may obtain products and services, such as sample briefs or model ordinances. The initial newsletter will be funded through the sale of tapes featuring the CLE presentation that Professor Lynn Wardle of the J. Reuben Clark School of Law at Brigham Young University gave at the NLA inaugural convention in St. Louis in October 1995. The tape is entitled "Abortion and Constitutional Law" and sells for $6.00.

Litigation Section The Litigation Section has elected officers. The Litigation Section will hold a meeting this spring in Chicago which will be scheduled to coincide with a CLE program of general interest to section members.

Oil and Gas Section
The Oil and Gas Section reported that, although it is not yet "humming" it is working on expanding its membership base.

Patent, Trademark and Copyright Section
The Patent, Trademark and Copyright Section is currently establishing rules and by-laws and gathering information as to the goals of is membership. It plans to have a business meeting at the upcoming convention in September, 1996 in Chicago to vote on by-laws, to formalize a name for the section, to elect leadership, and to "mix." The section is establishing a plan to solicit new membership to both the NLA and this section vis-a-vis the interaction of its members with other substantive organizations and the patent bar at large.

Tax Section

Technology & Computers Committee
The Technology & Computers Committee is contacting its members to solicit their input on committee goals. At the upcoming Chicago convention, the committee plans to formally organize and establish a means of communication with its members. Preliminary goals include: identification of professional needs as they relate to T&C; provision of assistance and education to the technologically challenged; and establishment and maintenance of a NLA web site.
